![]() Vonda McIntyre's great historical fantasy novel, The Moon and the Sun, is being made into a film starring Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt. The book is a mermaid story, a period drama, a brava for female freedom (both intellectual and literal) and one of the great dwarf romances (along with Tanith Lee's White as Snow) - although the absence of Count Lucien de Chretien from the film cast list and the predominance of male stars suggests that the best and richest dimensions of the novel may be lost in the film adaptation. I'll defer my opinion until I see the film - meanwhile, if you'd like to form your own opinion, I highly recommend reading the novel before the film appears!
